How Often Should You Wash Towels?

Why is washing towels properly important?

Towels become damp when you dry yourself with them. A porous, moist environment is a perfect breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria. A regular bath towel can contain yeast, mold, and even E. coli bacteria. Washing towels regularly prevents their development. Of course, from the point of view of our comfort, towels should be washed primarily because they are the ones we dry ourselves with right after bathing. It is therefore worth having a suitable, pleasant smell.

How Often Should You Wash Towels?

When it comes to how often you wash your towels, there are a few important factors to consider. Consumer Reports says that in a normal household, a towel can be used three or four times before it needs to be washed. This is also true for hand towels. The health of the person using the towel also plays a role. If they are sick, throw them in the wash after one use. If it’s flu season, it’s best for each family member to have their own towel — even if they’re not showing symptoms — to prevent the potential spread of germs. How often you wash your towels also depends on how they’re dried after use. If towels are left on the floor, the lack of air circulation will cause bacteria to grow quickly. To extend the life of your towels, place damp towels on a hanger. Even better, open a window or turn on a fan to reduce humidity in the room.
